Description

The Sondheim classic makes a triumphant return to Broadway, this time starring six-time Tony winner Audra McDonald as Mama Rose. (Among others who’ve played the role are Ethel Merman, Tyne Daly, Angela Lansbury, Bernadette Peters, Imelda Staunton and Leslie Uggams, so McDonald is in illustrious company.) The musical is based on the memoirs of midcentury striptease artist Gypsy Rose Lee and is commonly held to be one of the most artistically and commercially successful Broadway shows of all time. Note: Montego Glover plays Mama Rose during Sunday matinees.
